~A brief introduction
Hello fellow book lovers!
My name is Nicole and I just started this little book club in Abuja called 'The Readers'. I have been to countless book clubs through the course of my life. Some have helped me grow, allowed me to expand my thinking and taken me down lanes of literature I never thought possible. Others have been less than exciting, losing the point of a a real book club and becoming either to stuffy or just down rightwack uninspiring.
The point of this book club is for us as a group to share opinions, dislikes and likes that promote thought provoking discussions about life, love, war and peace. I wan't The Readers to be a comfortable and interactive space to relax and pick each other's brains. It will amaze you how a different perspective on something can change your entire way of thinking.
Every member of the group will choose a book which we will all read. The book club will be fortnightly, thus allowing the more busy ones amongst us, enough time to actually read the book. Highlighting excerpts of issues you want to discuss will be preferred so we have a clear direction of what we are all discussing during the meet.
Let us not cage ourselves to one genre -African literature, vintage English books to non-fiction works will all be welcome. As we all know, it is not as easy to buy books in Abuja as it is overseas, so choices may have to be limited to easily accessible books. I will write a post about book shops in Abuja, please feel free to comment and add other book outlets you may know about.
I hope that this little book club grows into something bigger and enriches each of us intellectually, as well as emotionally.
